Does LCG Want America to be Defeated?

HWA insisted that the United States is destined to soon be conquered by a German led European Empire in the near future. Consequently the COGs constantly scour the news looking for information to convince themselves that this will soon occur. Naturally some people see this behavior and say that LCG wants America to be defeated.

In the July-August 2008 issue of LCG's recruitment magazine Wallace Smith insisted that LCG did not want the United States to be conquered.
Scripture reveals that tough times are ahead for the United States and the British-descended nations, before Jesus Christ's prophesied return. Does this mean that we should want to see our nations suffer? ...

We certainly want Christ to return, and we know that these prophecies of hard times—harder than any nation has seen before—must come to pass before His return. But does this mean we are rooting for our nations to suffer? No, it does not!
So what if LCG's leaders should happen to insist that they do not want the United States to endure military conquest. They insist that it will happen. They stake their credibility on these dire predictions. They get new members and co-workers (donors) who are attracted to their dire proclamations.

Does LCG's leaders want America to be defeated? It does not matter whether LCG's leaders want this dire catastrophe to occur or not. They insist it will soon happen and they materially benefit from making these dire predictions.

If one stakes one's credibility on predicting the imminent destruction of one's homeland no wonder people unfamiliar with the intricacies of Armstrongism will think you want the United States to be defeated.
Yes, we at Tomorrow's World want Christ to return very soon—even though this means a Tribulation beforehand, and times of unprecedented suffering for the Jewish state of Israel and for the modern nations descended from the "lost" ten tribes of ancient Israel, including the U.S. and Great Britain. But while we understand the prophesied need for that suffering, we will not be like Jonah—who, in spite of preaching repentance to the Ninevites, actually hoped they would not repent. Rather, we strive to preach a message of hope—that those who repent, whether individuals or entire nations, can begin to reap God's blessings.
Join us or else your children to be cast into the horrors of the Great Tribulation. Stay with us or else you will be cast into the Great Tribulation. Send your money to us or else you cannot go to the Place of Safety to escape the horrors of the Great Tribulation.

It matters little whether they want the United States to be conquered by Europe or not. They insist it will happen soon. They publish this magazine for the purpose of convincing others into thinking this dire catastrophe will soon occur and get donations from people who are indoctrinated into believing that God is with LCG.

HWA and his imitators are but false prophets. They have numerous false predictions. They even said Christ would return in 1975. There is no need to fear their dire predictions.

  1. When I was a member of WCG, I did not want the US to be defeated. I desperately hoped the Armstrongs were wrong, and that it would all go away. And, there were other people who felt the same way. The people that kept hammering the prophecy were ministers and aspiring ministers. And, then, nothing happened in 1975, and some of us never did give them a second chance to get it right.

  2. I suspect many COG members over the years also wanted America to stay strong so that the Great Tribulation would take awhile before it happened.

Thank you for sharing your insight on this blog.
